Description
A row of polypores commonly called turkey tail fungus (Trametes versicolor or coloriolus or polypolrus) lines the top of this fallen log, now rotting in a woodland area near the Missouri River in eastern Nebraska. Though turkey tail fungi can be beautifully colored, as indicated by the word words versicolor or coloriolus in their scientific nomenclature, these were simply gray and white (cream). However, they made up in shape for what they lacked in color, as the concentric circles of the rosette formation suggested the petals of a flower.
